(Penny rams the screwdriver into the key barrel. Twisting it, she shifts to the hammer. Pounding the handle once, twice, a third time, the lock snaps with a sharp, satisfying crack. The door handle, falling loose, gives nothing in the way of resistance. Retracting the driver, re-aiming it, Penny jabs the point into the narrow slit between the door and the frame, again forcing it in deep. With her total weight behind it, pushing further still, she pivots the driver, hooking it behind the door. Twisting it, wood splinters and moans out as if in torture. Unlike the lock, the door puts up a better defence but, in seconds, pops open with a burst of splintered wood and paint. A shard of wood, stack-like, is torn from the frame. Letting it drop to the floor, kicking it to the side, she pulls the door open. Taking in a deep breath, struggling with the cramped space, she steps into the darkness of her neighbour’s storage cupboard.)
